Using the Equality Duty to challenge decisions and promote disability rights

The Public Sector Equality Duty is a key tool for influencing positive change and protecting the interests of disabled people. It has been used successfully to challenge public authorities’ policies, including decisions to cut services. This course will help you to understand how the duty can be used in your work with individuals and when promoting social change.
In particular the course will include:
- - Understanding which organisations are bound by the - Equality Duty and what their specific and general duties are.
- - Case law which explains how the courts have interpreted the Duty and the sorts of cases that have succeeded and why
- - Practical activities and discussion to help participants to see when and how to use the Equality Duty in their work
- - Enforcement of the Duty through the courts
