Date: 2 April
Time: 10am – 1pm
Trainer: Nick Clarke
Delivered by DLS’s London Development Officer this course is relevant to organisations wanting to increase the capacity of disabled people to use the law to resolve disputes and address discrimination and inadequate services. We will also consider how knowledge of legal rights and entitlements contributes to empowerment. Delegates will need to have a basic understanding of the area of law that they want to empower disabled people to use (either based on their existing knowledge or from attending one of our courses).
This will be a hands on course in which you will have a chance to develop your knowledge and ideas and be inspired by others’.
The course will help you to:
- Consider the idea of legal capability and the aims of public legal education
- Get clear about your aims for work in this area and what you want to achieve
- Identify your audience and understand their aims
- Understand the barriers your audience face to using the law and other barriers to empowerment that disabled people can face
- How to engage with disabled people, workshops and beyond
- Being accessible to your audience and meeting their learning needs
- Evaluating your outcomes
