Consultations

DLS is regularly called on to participate in policy making consultations, the results of which often change the legal framework or the way in which public organisations work with disabled people.

Being run by and working for disabled people DLS holds a unique position in being able to effectively identify and represent the views of a wide range of its service users, which can lead to better policy.

DLS believes in the transparency and accountability of decision making and wants disabled people to have a stake in the development of policies that affect them.

This section will invite you to offer your opinions and comments on consultations in process. To be informed of when these pages become active please register your interest by sending an email to info@dls.org.uk

Consultation on potential discrimination cases

One of the ways in which the Equality Act 2010 streamlines discrimination law is by replacing a series of nine individual questionnaires about possible discrimination (for sex, disability, sexual orientation etc), with a single set of paperwork (guidance and forms) for all types of discrimination. There will also be new guidance and forms for equality of terms issues (formally known as the equal pay provisions).

The Government Equalities Office is consulting on the draft paperwork for obtaining information about potential discrimination and equality of term cases. The new paperwork will come into use when the Equality Act 2010 comes into force later this year.

The consultation runs from 16 June and closes on 13 July 2010 click here.
